An MSN With Two Prestigious Specialties
If you are interested in the unique needs of women, wish to enhance your skills, and further your career, then the UC Master of Science in Nursing program offers two distinct options. Choose a specialty which fits your unique talents and skills and learn from faculty who are both educators and practitioners. Highly ranked and accredited, the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing stands tall in a crowded nursing education field.
Nurse-Midwifery
A Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is an advance practice nurse who has highly specialized training in a woman’s health. The primary focus for a nurse midwife is to advise women throughout pregnancy, assist in the delivery of the child, and provide continuing medical care to the woman after delivery. They may also care for women throughout their life span, from puberty to menopause. A CNM may also treat male patients in certain areas including STDs and reproductive health issues. Nurse midwives often work closely with an obstetrician and gynecologist to provide support and consultation to patients. They currently practice in hospitals and medical clinics in all 50 states and elsewhere across the world. As a graduate of this program, you will:
- Be part of a booming profession, as more women discover that nurse midwives are an excellent alternative to the traditional medical model of care.
- Gain the knowledge and skills needed to earn certification and prescriptive privileges
Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner
A Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner specializes in the diagnosis and management of common and complex medical conditions in female patients. They are dedicated to improving the wellness of this special population throughout the patient’s lifespan, from puberty through menopause. This includes prenatal care, family planning, and screening services. They are also able to perform minor surgeries and procedures. Women’s Health Nurse Practitioners are equipped to work in hospitals, private practice, government organizations, community health organizations, and other health care systems and have varying levels of autonomy. As a graduate of this program, you will:
- Be part of one of the fastest growing nursing specialties in the country
- Gain the knowledge and skills needed to earn certification and prescriptive privileges
