New maternity program at a California hospital gives moms-to-be access to midwives

Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, California has recently announced the launch of an innovative program that was created to offer pregnant women more choices in the delivery room.

Through a partnership with several obstetrics and gynecology practices in the area, the hospital will offer moms-to-be 24/7 access to a team of 10 certified nurse midwives and 20 board certified obstetricians. Each woman will be able to customize her own birth plan based on the type of delivery and attending healthcare professional she desires. The Marin General Hospital is the only of its kind offering this service in the greater San Francisco area.

"This program is an example of how to combine the best of traditional medicine and alternative approaches," said Lee Domanico, the CEO of Marin General Hospital. "We’re giving women more say in choosing the delivery with which they are most comfortable."

In addition to the access to alternative maternity-focused healthcare professionals that this new program offers, expectant mothers will also be given the option of choosing to give birth in an Aqua-Eeze birthing tub.
