New Jersey woman receives prestigious nursing award

The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) has announced the winners of its 2011 State Awards for Excellence. Dr. Theresa Campo from Palermo has been selected as the recipient of this award in the state of New Jersey.

Campo – who has worked as a nurse practitioner at the Shore Memorial Hospital's Quick Care program for more than 20 years – earned her master's in nursing from Widener University in Chester, Ohio, and her doctorate at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She has undertaken additional coursework to become certified as a family care, emergency and trauma nurse practitioner.

In addition to her nursing career, Campo is also a businesswoman, author and teacher. She is the owner of Farfalla Education – an institution that provides seminars for nurse practitioners – as well as its primary lecturer. She is also a professor at Case Western Reserve University and Felician College, edits the Cases of Note column in the Advanced Emergency Nursing Journal and has published a clinical companion book for emergency nurses.

Campo will be honored in June at the 26th national AANP conference.
