This hidden gem of the nursing field provides an exciting path for the nurse strong enough to blaze the trail. While Midwives have seen a steady rise in recent years, there still aren't enough to meet demand. Because of their expert knowledge of women throughout a lifespan, including pregnancy, many women seek out nurse midwives to be their primary care provider. This specialty is perfect for nurses interested in the human mind and behavior. The Psych specialty offers both a Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist path with either an Adult or a Child/Adolescent focus. This is one of the (very) few Master of Nursing programs to offer a focus in children - and it just so happens to be online, too. Psychiatric nurses are focused on helping each patient improve their quality of life.

I ultimately want to become a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. However, I have heard that if you go for family NP then you can later specialize in Womens Health and it may be easier to find a job after you graduate. Is this true that you can specialize later on and if so, how much extra schooling does that require? Also, my husband is in the military which means that we are out-of-state at the time being, but our state of residency remains Ohio. does this mean I can register as in state? Thank You in advanced. Heather
Hi Heather, each specialization has its own popularity. You ultimately want to research what specialty is more prominent in your area. Typically students who have an MSN and want to later specialize in another area, look for a post-master’s certificate program. You can click here to view UC’s on-campus post-master’s options. If you still hold an Ohio residence, then you are eligible for in-state tuition.
I’m currently enrolled in an FNP program but am concerned about the cost (more than double your tuition). Do you accept transfer students?
Hi! Yes, we do accept transfer credits on a case-by-case basis. Please click here to view the transfer credit policy.
I have my MSN and would like to know more information on what my program would look like.
Hi Penny. Our program is a master’s program. You might be looking for a post-master’s certificate. Please click here to view the on-campus options. If you are interested in obtaining another master’s, please contact an enrollment advisor at 866-225-6764
