According to ABC News, home births attended by clinical nurse-midwives are becoming increasing popular in the U.S. So much so, in fact, that even movie stars and models are opting to bypass their obstetricians and gynecologists in favor of these time-tested medical professionals.
A few celebrities who have chosen this method of delivery include Alyson Hannigan, Jennifer Connelly, Gisele Bundchen and Alanis Morrissette. According to the news source, many individuals prefer home births attended by nurse-midwives for the personal and private delivery experience it allows.
"At the hospitals you're pretty much at the discretion of what it is they want you to do," said Milagros Guzman, quoted by the media outlet. "Owning the power of my own body was very, very beautiful. And being able to labor in the way that I wanted, whatever position it was, not having to lay on my back, was really great."
Clinical nurse-midwives are individuals who have earned Master of Science in Nursing degrees, reports Education Portal. Pursuing an advanced nursing credential can have many benefits, especially if the program includes extensive hands-on experience, such as courses designed for clinical nurse-midwives.
